Question by Ink666: The weather is cold. My skin is dry and it’s bad for my tattoos! Anyone know of any good lotion for this? ?
For some reason the cold weather is really making my skin dry out. I keep putting on lotion but my skin just ends up dry again. I am a chef so I wash my hands a forearms a lot. This is adding to the problem. I am also getting some flaky skin, cracking and bleeding which I never had before on my hands, arms and feet.

I am about 50% covered in tattoos and I am afraid all this crappy weather will take a toll on my ink. My uncle who is a tattoo artist says dry skin will make the ink fade….The OTHER uncle who’s also a tattoo artist says it doesn’t matter and lotions and creams just make the ink LOOK brighter temporally but they don’t do much to extend the lifespan in the long run. Both say sunblock is a must so I do this anyway. So, if ANYONE has an answer for this one, I want to hear it!

Who is right here? Uncle 1 (who is young and new school) says “Put lotion and sunblock on it and never let your skin get dried out or flaky and take vitamins to protect your skin.” OR Uncle 2 (is old school) who says “Put sunblock on it when you have to and other than that you can pretty much ignore it.”???

Who thinks long term after care of ink matters? Who doesn’t? With three artists in my family, I grew up hearing people debate this so even I don’t know! I am a fan of the new school of thought myself. And does anyone have any good tips in general for protecting my ink and my skin this winter?
