Question by Runaway Thundercat: Is it the fault of men that women can’t go topless in public?
A female friend recently went to bonaroo and mentioned there was “much skin” and scantily dressed young women. Apparently, much eye candy for males. I asked if any were going topless and she said a few did.
Then with one of the most foul looks I’ve ever seen on her face she stated “It is YOUR fault that women can’t go topless. You MEN would just ogle and stare.” Rarely do gender issues come up like this in the real world.
I explained that initially, yes, men would stare. Eventually, it would become more commonplace and the staring would go to a minimum. I pointed out to her that in Europe (Well, Germany at least), women often go topless in public. Usually on beaches and in parks. Men don’t gather around drooling. She has never been to Europe and has not seen this situation.
Let’s say, for debate, there were no laws banning women going topless.
I didn’t go looking for a gender confrontation issue. She came to me and started telling of her trip.
Dark Eyes: I think my friend was implying men would stare even more. Let’s say a guy walks down the street and a woman walks right by him. He looks at her breasts. If she is across the street will he change his path for a closer look? If she was topless vs. clothed?
I’d also like to add this…the same woman who scolded me once mentioned how great her breasts were (to me and my friend at lunch) and that she would like to be able to show them off (topless) but it wasn’t legal.
D.E.: Why so many TD’s? Just for expressing an opinion…

They’re allowed to in my country.
It’s only “naughty” b/c society never shows the damn boobs, in Africa no males find it hot when their females walk around with their breast’s dangling.
